Whether you’re hoping to accelerate or change your career, enhance your CV, or update your understanding in your field, the University of Cambridge’s postgraduate programmes give you advanced education without the time and financial commitments of a full Master’s degree.

The Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) offers postgraduate certificates, which are the equivalent to one third of a Master’s degree, or diploma courses that are equal to two-thirds of a Master’s.

In our part-time postgraduate programmes you’ll be taught at postgraduate level, commensurate to FHEQ level 7, and will submit work for assessment. On completion, you’ll receive a Postgraduate Certificate (PG Cert) or Postgraduate Diploma (PG Dip) which are recognised by employers and universities alike.

Earn a postgraduate qualification from the University of Cambridge

Completing a PG Dip or PG Cert at the University of Cambridge comes with several key benefits:

●    Learn from leading Cambridge lecturers, researchers and practitioner experts
●    Receive a PG Cert or PG Dip which is recognised worldwide
●    Gain advanced knowledge in a field without the time or financial commitments of a Master’s
●    Facilitate professional specialism or a career change

ICE has a particular focus on postgraduate courses for working professionals in the fields of medicine, the sciences, education and architecture. These programmes are designed to fit around your working life and are popular with professionals who are looking to specialise.

Each course is different, but learning usually happens over the course of one academic year. You may receive instruction at weekends, evenings or in a number of week-long residential blocks each term.

"ICE has offered me the opportunity to study a well-designed, part-time programme tailored to my working life and focused on experiential learning at a world class institution." Aamir, PG Cert in Medical Education student.

What is the difference between a certificate and a diploma for postgraduates?

The difference between postgraduate certificates and diplomas relates to the amount of time required and university credits (CATS) that each course carries. PG Certs take a full academic year for students to achieve on a part-time basis, and are equivalent to 60 credits or precisely one-third of a Master’s degree. PG Dips are worth 120 credits, some taught over two academic years, and are equivalent to two-thirds of a Master’s degree.
