A literary ramble along the paths and lanes of rural England. Accompanying us on our journey into l'Angleterre profonde will be writers such as Gilbert White, William Cobbett, Francis Kilvert, Richard Jefferies, Ronald Blythe, Richard Mabey and Robert Macfarlane. Other figures will flit across the landscape or emerge from the hedgerows, not least the poets, John Clare and Edward Thomas. You will be asked to undertake some preparatory reading prior to our bookish weekend in the country.
