Microcredit (now known as microfinance), Professor Muhammad Yunus of Bangladesh and his Grameen Bank and Nobel Prize, have attracted a great deal of admiration and money, and, more recently, some vilification and blame. This course will describe what microfinance is, and what it is not; what it achieves, and does not; and will present some of the pros and the cons which have led to so much controversy.
