We will consider some of the most beautiful and tantalising fragments which remain from the original corpus of Ancient Greek Lyric, from the highly individualistic Archilochus to the heart-breaking voice of Sappho and finally to the sublime Pindar, with plenty of lesser known glories in between. Poems will be contextualized in the historical setting of a rapidly developing Ancient Greece.
