The session is primarily to explore characteristics of the modern Korean family and their culture. Family relationships and addressing terms will be looked at together with a few current issues Korean families are facing. An observation of the distinctive features of Korean food will also be made.

Dr Mihye Harker was born in Seoul, South Korea and studied both in Korea and England. She has an MA and a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Warwick and the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne respectively. She has extensive teaching experience ranging from EFL, Practical Translation and Korean at universities in Korea (Sogang University and Sungkyunkwan University) and in England (Luton University, Imperial College and UCL).
Dr Harker has also worked in various other roles: examiner for IGCSE exams, translator/interpreter, and Data Officer for a charity. She is currently teaching Korean at the Cambridge University Language Centre.
