So Iago describes the condition which exerts a recurrent fascination across Shakespeare, as sexual insecurity feeds a still deeper uncertainty as to how well we can know someone else. We shall be trying to understand what afflicts Leontes (The Winter’s Tale) and Othello, while also drawing on key moments elsewhere.
