Bird watching is a hobby for a many people. This course looks at birds from a different perspective - their impact on humans. First through the arts: from Egyptian tomb paintings to Baroque composers and contemporary artists. Then sciences, especially the study of bird song and other work pioneered at Madingley. Finally, conservation, much of which has been driven by the need to protect birds.
