We look at Jane Austen's first two published novels. Sense and Sensibility begins Austen's exploration of the inner life and social relationships of young women. Pride and Prejudice develops the design and themes of its predecessor in a social comedy which is witty, but more critical and less light-hearted than at first apparent.
