Welcome to Biology at ICE! We offer a wide range of biological courses: everything from natural history to genetics and evolution to forensic science. Whether you are a beginner or hoping to increase your professional qualifications in biology, we have something to take your fancy.
Our range of courses reflects some of the diversity of biological research taking place in Cambridge today and many of our tutors are actively involved in research and teaching at the University of Cambridge and other leading institutions.
Part-time qualifications in Biological Sciences
The following Certificate courses are complementary and can be taken in any order. Both are taught at FHEQ Level 4, equivalent to first-year undergraduate level. The courses are open to all, and no prior knowledge or qualifications are required.
Undergraduate Certificate in Genetics invites you to enter the fast-moving and controversial world of genetics. You will discover how DNA acts as the blueprint for living organisms and how it codes the structure and functions of living cells.
Undergraduate Certificate in Evolutionary Biology includes units on Darwin's idea, behaviour and biodiversity, and plants and people.
Undergraduate Diploma in Evolutionary Biology (2016/17). This Diploma introduces you to evolution at the grandest scale: major evolutionary transitions that gave rise to whole new lineages of organisms, and some of their causes and consequences.
Bursaries and student loans available
If you are new to higher education, you could be eligible for a bursary award. You will also be able to pay your fees in instalments, and you may also have access to part-time student loans.
