Part-time University qualifications in Literature

Undergraduate Certificates

We offer two Certificate in English Literature courses at ICE: Certificate I and Certificate II. These normally run in alternate years.

These two courses are complementary and can be taken in any order. Both are taught at FHEQ Level 4, equivalent to first-year undergraduate level. The courses are open to all, and no prior knowledge or qualifications are required.

Undergraduate Certificate in English Literature I (2017/18) offers an introduction to English Literature spanning more than 500 years, with units on close reading and context, Shakespeare in his time and ours, and the literature of North America.

Undergraduate Certificate in English Literature II (2015/16), meanwhile, offers units on reading and interpretation, Romanticism, and First World War literature.

Undergraduate Diplomas

If you have some knowledge, experience and enthusiasm in the field or have completed a Certificate in English Literature, our one-year Diploma courses will give you the opportunity to extend and develop the knowledge and skills you have already acquired.

As with the Certificates, we offer two complementary Diploma courses which run in alternate years and can be taken in any order. Both are taught at FHEQ Level 5, equivalent to second-year undergraduate level.
