Institute of Continuing Education

We offer a limited number of bursaries to eligible students who wish to study selected courses with the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE).

Bursaries for part-time study

These bursaries are available to successful applicants to an ICE Undergraduate Certificate or Diploma course for the academic year 2018/19. They are designed for those who are at least 18 years old, studying credit-bearing courses at university level for the first time and for whom finance is a barrier to part-time study.

Please note that as we normally receive a greater number of applications than we have bursaries available, not all applications may be successful. Those awarded a bursary are eligible to receive only one bursary at a time.

Available bursaries

  • First-time Students Bursary (various sums to a maximum of £500)
  • Ivy Rose Hood Bursary (£1,000)
  • Lifelong Learning Bursary for study in the Sciences (£1,500)
  • Lifelong Learning Bursary for study in the Arts and Humanities (£1,500)

The deadline for application to these bursaries is Friday 6 July 2018 and applicants will be informed of the outcome within three weeks of this date.

How to apply

To apply for a bursary online, please complete and submit the bursary application form.

Please note that if you are awarded a bursary, we will ask you to book your place on the course within two weeks of the date of notification in order to accept the bursary and confirm your place on the course. Unless your fees are fully funded by the awarded bursary you will be required to pay an initial instalment in order to secure your place on the course. You will be notified of the process and any outstanding fees when the bursary is awarded.

Bursaries are repayable in full if a student does not complete the course, where the Institute considers that there are no significant mitigating circumstances.

Hardship Fund

For current ICE students who are experiencing unexpected financial hardship, application for financial support can be made to ICE’s Hardship Fund. Please contact your course administration team for further information.

Bursaries for short courses

The Cambridge University Press (CUP) Bursary Fund offers a bursary of 50% of the course fee to applicants who teach in a UK state school or state-funded further education institution, applying to study a day school, weekend course or online course. These bursaries are available during the 2017/18 and 2018/19 academic years.
