Radio Producer – Fixed Term Contract, 12 months

Grade 5 - £25,728 - £29,799 per annum

The Naked Scientists team is an award-winning science outreach initiative which produces radio programmes, podcasts and online content for audiences internationally. Based in offices within the sub-Department of Zoology, Madingley, the Naked Scientists team are part of the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE). The venture is headed by Dr Chris Smith, who is also a consultant virologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, and the project is supported by grants and sponsorship from research councils, charities and industry, including Rolls-Royce.

We enjoy a close and fruitful relationship with the BBC at local, regional and national levels, as well as other broadcasters internationally including the ABC in Australia, Radio New Zealand National and South Africa’s Primedia network. Across all of our outlets we reach about one million people worldwide per week.

We are looking for a skilled individual to work full-time within our team, initially for six months, in a production and content-creation role. This will include recording and compiling radio packages and outside reports for broadcast, identifying and booking guest contributors and presenters, participation in training workshops and public and schools outreach events, supporting trainees, contributing to live radio programmes, script-writing and online publishing. We operate from the Institute of Continuing Education at Madingley Hall, where this post will be based.

Applicants should be qualified to at least degree level in a science discipline and, while training will be provided as part of the role, previous presenting and production experience in radio or podcasting, including audio editing, is preferred. The ability to work well within a team is essential, and candidates must be able to work flexibly, reflecting live radio broadcast times. The job may also involve travel, including overseas, to cover stories and make recordings.
