Ben Challis completed his undergraduate training in Biochemistry & Chemistry at the University of Western Ontario. He obtained his PhD at the University of Cambridge where he also obtained his MB BChir and completed specialist medical training in Internal Medicine & Endocrinology and Diabetes as an NIHR funded Academic Clinical Lecturer. His research has focused on the genetics of metabolic disease, particularly obesity and ddisorders of glucose metabolism and endocrine oncology. He is currently an Honorary Consultant in Endocrinology at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridgge. In September 2016, Ben joined AstraZeneca where he now works as a Director Physician in the Clinical Diiscovery Unit of Early Clinical Development. His responsibilities include develpoment of genetic- and biomarker-based strategies for human taget validaiton, drug repurposing and experimental medicine studies. Ben holds a PG Certificate in medical education, regularly teaches medical students and junior doctors in both small and large group settings and supervises graduate students. He is a fellow at St Edmund's College (University of Cambridge) and Director of Studies for Clinical Medicine.
