Having completed his clinical training in Cambridge, Mark Gurnell was appointed to a University Lectureship in 2004, and shortly afterwards took up post as Specialty Director for Medicine in the School of Clinical Medicine. In 2009 he became Clinical Director of Studies at Sidney Sussex College Cambridge, and in 2010 completed an MA in Medical Education and was appointed Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. In 2011 he was awarded a University of Cambridge Pilkington Prize for excellence in teaching, and was appointed Clinical SubDean (Lead for Assessment) in the Clinical School. In 2015 Dr Gurnell was elected to Fellowships of the Academy of Medical Educators (UK) and Sidney Sussex College (Cambridge). Currently, he serves on the Board of the Medical Schools Council Assessment Alliance (MSCAA) and is chair of the MSCAA Final Clinical Review Groups. At a postgraduate level, he is member of the Royal College of Physicians Exam Board and the Standard Setting Group for the Specialty Certificate Examination in Endocrinology.
