Dr Matthew Wilkinson

Matt delivers day schools for the Certificate and Diploma in Evolutionary Biology.  Beyond ICE, he has just had his first book published - Restless Creatures: The Story of Life in Ten Movements - a popular science take on the evolution of locomotion. In the forthcoming academic year he will be combining various book promotion activities with his usual Director of Studies role at Sidney Sussex College, and will be teaching in the department of zoology.  Matt also expects to develop his next major writing project.

Matt's usual teaching style is to deliver multimedia presentations, with group discussions or practicals following as appropriate.  Where possible, he likes to give students the chance to see organisms in the field.  As a popular science writer, he segregates a portion of at least one of his day schools as a popular science writing workshop.  Matt's hope that his teaching will offer students a heightened sense of their place in the living world, and give them a new way of engaging with it.
