Thomas George Thuruthel received the B.Tech. degree in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, Hyderabad, India, in 2013 and the master's degree in Biorobotics from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan, in 2015 and a Ph.D. degree in Biorobotics at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Pisa, Italy.
His research interests include modeling and control of soft bodied systems, dexterous manipulation, and artificial intelligence. He is currently a Research Associate in the Biologically Inspired Robotics Laboratory in Cambridge working on self-healing soft robots, design optimization of soft-bodied systems and Reinforcement Learning techniques for dexterous manipulation using tactile sensors. He prefers an enquiry-based learning approach where research problems and topics are boiled down to fundamental questions and then investigated.
