The University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) delivers high quality and distinctive education for adult learners primarily studying on a part-time basis, for personal enrichment or professional development. ICE aims to ensure that the expertise and resources of the University of Cambridge are made available to all students, irrespective of their previous educational achievements.
We wish to appoint a full-time Course Lead in Life Science and Pre-Medical Science for 2-years in the first instance. The role-holder will lead on the establishment and delivery of a new FHEQ Level 4 Certificate in Higher Education in Pre-Medical Studies in addition to providing a vital leadership, management and teaching role for the Institute’s broader portfolio of undergraduate courses in the life sciences. The Course Lead will lead the development, management, teaching, and ongoing evaluation and improvement of these courses and others in the undergraduate biomedical and life sciences sub-degree portfolio and ensure the very highest academic quality and professional standards, commensurate with the University of Cambridge’s reputation as one of the world’s greatest seats of learning. Candidates with teaching experience in areas of human biology, genetics, biochemistry and immunology are encouraged to apply. Experience of, or interest in, developing courses for online delivery would be advantageous.
This is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to make a major contribution to the development and expansion of a world-leading undergraduate portfolio in this area, led and informed by the expertise of researchers and practitioners from across the University of Cambridge.
Candidates should have an earned doctoral-level qualification in a relevant field and provide evidence of: a strong track record in course design, excellence in teaching, and an interest in engagement with biomedical communities. A postgraduate teaching qualification would be beneficial.
The post-holder will be required to work collaboratively with Departments and other stakeholders across the University and the wider Cambridge Biomedical networks as well as with Medical Schools in the East of England. Candidates should have a demonstrable ability to take an interdisciplinary approach and to identify collaborative opportunities within and beyond the University where appropriate. Alongside strong interpersonal and communication skills, the candidate will also have an understanding, enthusiasm and flair for engaging academically with a broad spectrum of colleagues and students and a demonstrable commitment to the principles and delivery of continuing education.
