Foundation programme for Clinical Educators

Course Programme

The course consists of  two full days and related self-directed activity.

Please plan to arrive 15 – 30 minutes before your session. Complimentary tea and coffee making facilities are available in the Terrace Bar and lunch can be purchased at the time of booking your course place (please note that lunch cannot be purchased on the day).

Session 1 – Wednesday 11 March 2020, 9.30am – 5pm

• Introduction to educational models and how they apply to medical education
• Principles of adult learning
• Applying educational models to teaching in clinical settings
• Introduction to working with learners as individuals and in smaller groups

Session 2 - Wednesday 8 April 2020, 9.30  – 5pm

• Teaching skills
• Applying principles to teaching about the medical interview and teaching about examination or clinical skills
• Introduction to reflective practice
• Working with individual learners to develop skills for supervision, facilitate development and give formative feedback.

Assessment and Qualifications

This course does not offer a formal qualification and you will not be required to submit an assessment. However you will be required to provide evidence of participation via an online reflective log and attend 100% of sessions to achieve a Certificate of Attendance. 

Please note that unless you attend all the sessions in full, you will not be awarded a Certificate.

Entry requirements

The course is funded by Health Education England East of England which includes Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.

To be eligible for a place you must meet the following two criteria:

• You should be a clinician or allied health care professional who is currently or about to have an educational or supervisory role as part of their job role within the Health Education East of England region.
• You must be employed within the geographical area of Health Education East of England which includes Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.

To apply, applicants must first be approved by their Directors of Medical Education (DME) or Training Programme Directors (TPD) for primary care. You must upload a letter of support from your DME or TPD when applying for a place.

We regret that your application will not be processed and your place cannot be confirmed unless the above criteria has been met.

The course is funded by Health Education England East of England which includes Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex. We regret that the course is not open to professionals who are employed outside this geographical area.

Venue

This course takes place at Madingley Hall, home to the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education.Built in the 16th century, Madingley Hall is a Grade 1 listed building, and is set in eight acres of landscaped gardens designed in the 18th century by ‘Capability’ Brown. It is just four miles from the centre of Cambridge, and only 60 minutes from London, with excellent links to London airports.
