The Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) successfully secured a majority in the Indian general elections of 2014 and 2019. This session considers to what extent Modi can be construed as a populist leader. With right wing heritage and Hindutva ideology, this session critically questions the impact of Modi-led BJP governance on India’s liberal democratic fabric.

This lecture will examine the controversial presidency, and foreign and domestic policies, of the Trump Administration. In particular, the nature of presidential power and the fear of an 'imperial' or 'unconstrained' presidency will be explored.
