Courses

Eligibility

Our Virtual Summer Festival of Learning is open to students aged 18-80+. Courses are taught at approximately first-year undergraduate level. You will be asked to provide your date of birth during the booking process. Unfortunately, we cannot accept bookings from anyone under the age of 18. (16-18 year olds may apply to the Virtual Pre-University Programme instead. More information will be available in the coming weeks.)

Language requirements

To ensure that all participants are able to enjoy studying with us, you will need to be confident understanding and following arguments presented in written and spoken English at University level.

If English is not your native language, you will need to satisfy yourself that you have an appropriate level of English language proficiency in line with the following recommended tests (achieved in the same sitting and no more than 2 years before the date of booking):

  • IELTS Academic or IELTS Academic for UKVI: Overall band score of 6.5 or above (with no less than 6.5 in each of the four individual components)
  • CPE (Cambridge English: Proficiency): Grade C or above or 200 points overall on the Cambridge English Scale
  • CAE (Cambridge English Advanced): Grade A or B or 193 points overall on the Cambridge English Scale

Alternatively, you may have undertaken all, or part, of your education in English and/or may have extensive experience using English on a regular basis in your professional life. On this basis, you could reasonably expect to fully participate in our Virtual Summer Festival of Learning.

Accessibility and additional support for students

We make every effort to meet the requirements of those students with additional needs. Please let us know about any additional requirements as soon as possible so that we can offer you the support and advice you require before and during the Festival. Please note that all of our courses are subtitled.

Course allocation

If your preferred course is full at the time of booking, you can add yourself to a waiting list. You will be notified, by email, if a place becomes available. Please note course changes cannot be made once a course has started.

Course cancellation by ICE

Whilst every effort is made to avoid changes to our programme, ICE reserves the right to withdraw any course. In such circumstances, we will endeavour to provide a substitute of equal standing.

Should a course have to be cancelled due to very low enrolment, or last-minute unforeseen circumstances, any participant enrolled on that course will be contacted immediately, and an alternative course place arranged.

Course places cannot be transferred to other people. If you are no longer able to take up your place please contact intenq@ice.cam.ac.uk

Student commitment

Please ensure you are able to prepare for your pre-recorded course sessions so that you can participate fully in the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). You will, where this is available, be provided with further reading to develop your knowledge of the topic.

Full engagement with your course is a factor in achieving successful outcomes. Regular interaction in the course and student forums enables you to contribute to and benefit from the strength of your peer-learning community. As such, you are encouraged to complete each day’s sessions in a timely manner.

We hope that you will enjoy the offerings from the Course Directors and distinguished speakers, and that you will participate in the range of optional activities available.

Cancellations and refunds

You may cancel your booking at any time. After the 14-day cancellation period has expired, the standard course cancellation policy (as specified below) shall apply.

Cancellation Period

Cancellations received within 14 days of receiving your
booking confirmation

Full refund

Cancellations received after the 14-day cancellation period

If you are acting as a consumer, and you cancel the course booking within 14 calendar days of receiving your booking confirmation without giving any reason, you are entitled to a full refund of the price paid. If you are not acting as a consumer, the standard ICE refund and cancellation policy provisions shall apply.

Cancellations and refunds in circumstances outside those described above, and/or following the expiry of the 14-day cancellation period, are subject to the terms and conditions set out here. For the avoidance of doubt, the cancellation period will expire 14 days after the date of the Booking Confirmation.

To cancel a course booking, you must inform us by emailing intenq@ice.cam.ac.uk and clearly state your intention to cancel a booking. You may use the model cancellation form, although it is not obligatory. Once completed, submit the form by email to: intenq@ice.cam.ac.uk.

To meet the cancellation deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning exercising the right to cancel before the cancellation period has expired.

We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction. You will not incur any fees as a result of this reimbursement.

If you start to use our services during the cancellation period (ie if the course commences during the 14-day cancellation period) or if you access the course materials via our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and you cancel the Contract, no refund will be due.

By booking and paying for a course that begins within the 14-day cancellation period, you are deemed to have expressed your wish to begin our services. If you subsequently decide to cancel the Contract, no refund will be due.

You will not have the right to cancel a Contract where the Services have been fully performed.

Payment for the course is due at point of booking. All fees are non-transferable to another year or another student.

In the case of a booking being changed from one course to another and where the student subsequently cancels the booking, please note that the booking confirmation date used will be that of the original booking, and not the revised course.
