Virtual Winter Festival of Learning
18 – 29 January 2021

Open-access courses

Following on from the success of our Virtual Summer Festival, we're delighted to announce our first Virtual Winter Festival of Learning. Whether you're a student, a professional, or are retired from a full career, signing up could be the start of your learning journey with us.

Taught through pre-recorded video sessions and a dedicated Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), our Winter Festival offers one-week online courses covering a range of subjects, from Business to Biotechnology, from Ancient History to History of Art, and from Politics to Poetry.

Delivered by leading Cambridge academics and subject specialists, our courses are designed to introduce you to new subjects or further your studies in familiar topics. You can also engage with your Course Directors and fellow students via online forums and will have access to a range of learning resources.

Bookings open in early November. Courses cost £149 each. Anyone signing up for one or more courses will get free access to our open talks.

If you would like to be added to our mailing list to find out more you can Register your interest here.

Open-access talks

Alongside our courses, we will also be launching a new series of open-access talks, showcasing the variety of subjects on offer here at the University, as well as research, global current affairs and a range of other topics. This series will include talks on: Christmas in Cambridge; Polar aviation history; Pandemic politics; Sherlock Holmes and The Edwardians and architectural truth.

For a one-off fee of £50 you can access over 30 talks delivered by subject specialists.

The full list of talks will be released in November when bookings open.

What our students said about the Virtual Summer Festival

“Fascinating and highly informative material presented very effectively by an engaging and knowledgeable tutor who fully supported, encouraged and engaged with students in the forums. Excellent.”

“Very thought-provoking and a great balance between close reading of the text and an overview of its context and themes. Watching the course has actually revived my faith in reading, and studying, English literature in my retirement.”

"I really appreciated the time the lecturer took to read and respond to our contributions. He was encouraging and genuinely engaged with the discussions. The content was interesting without being intimidating."

"Just wonderful. An exhilarating, exciting, invigorating week. A time I treasure which will ripple out into the years to come, not just for me but probably for all concerned. The tutor and the other participants all gave so many helpful suggestions it was a complete joy and has enriched my understanding and knowledge of poetry. Thank you."
