Institute of Continuing Education (ICE)

Chris Riches

Chris has studied on a number of our short courses, including History, Social History, Music and Science.

ICE has a wonderful knack of taking a topic and making it accessible to a beginner. At the end of a weekend, you leave with a real buzz, informed and itching to tell your friends about the great time you just had. I’ve come here to study History, Music, Science… anything that expands the mind. There have been lots of “a-ha!” moments where something, at last, makes sense or when you learn a new and interesting titbit. The “Madingley experience” is another world, full of an eclectic group of like-minded individuals and classes that stand out for their excellence. I never cease to sing the Institute’s praises.

Zoe Adams Green

Zoe has studied on several short courses including History, Philosophy and Ethics and Science.

I met my future husband for the first time on an Ethics course here in 2016. It didn’t hurt to get some insight into his moral values early on! My aim in coming to ICE is to widen my horizons by learning something new. Although now we have a toddler, I also hope to get a weekend of calm tranquillity! It’s fun to meet such a wide range of interesting people from different backgrounds. The quality of the teaching, the house, the grounds – the whole experience is amazing. I rave about the courses at ICE and, despite living in Italy, will try to return as often as possible.
