Alastair teaches module 6 on the Mst Architecture Apprenticeship programme, providing practical experience and demonstrations of reducing embodied carbon of buildings by design. Alastair works at Waugh Thistleton Architects, where he is their technical and sustainability lead, responsible for establishing low-carbon design strategies and technical design solutions for the implementation of mass timber products and other prefabricated systems. He has contributed to several in-house and external publications and is involved in several cross-industry groups focussed on furthering the zero-carbon agenda.
His teaching style provides examples based on practical experience via presentations and digital demonstrations. He advocates a fabric-first approach to energy efficiency and asks students and colleagues to consider this when reviewing their design and design processes.
