Anita Makri is a freelance writer, editor and producer with 20 years’ experience in development, health and the environment - focusing on science in policy, society and the Global South.
She is based in London and has reported from Africa, Latin America and South Asia. Her work has been published in the Guardian, National Geographic, Nature, New Scientist, SciDev.Net, The Lancet, and Undark, among others.
Previously she spent several years as a consultant and editor for SciDev.Net’s global edition. In her role heading the op-eds and special features desk, she managed flagship projects for in-depth coverage of a range of issues from a developing world perspective.
In 2018 she was Visiting Journalist at the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center residency on science for development.
Anita serves as an advisor with the Global Health Film Initiative, as a mentor with the New York Academy of Sciences and on the board of the European Federation for Science Journalism. She has worked across sectors in media, publishing and research, having started her career in environmental health risk and vulnerability analysis.
