Ben is an architect and urban designer based in Cambridge.
For the past three years, Ben has worked with 5th Studio architects, running and supporting a myriad of projects across many scales and sectors – from community-led masterplans; to work on Oxbridge college building refurbishments; to the delivery of public realm improvements; to the detailed design of bespoke fittings. Recently, he has been working closely with Westminster City Council to deliver two new public spaces with support from the GLA's Good Growth Fund.
Prior to 5th Studio, he worked with Sir Terry Farrell and Purcell. Ben aided the Farrells' vision for Gatwick airport, including developing the 'landside' landscape design; he also supported the 'four villages and a high-street' masterplan at Earls Court.
Previously at Cambridge, Ben was a part-time technical drawing tutor to first-year undergraduate students.
Ben studied at the University of Cambridge for ARB/RIBA parts 2 & 3 and at the Kent School of Architecture for ARB/RIBA part 1. At Cambridge, he undertook a two-year postgraduate research project, in collaboration with Essex County and Colchester Borough Councils, CPRE, CRT, and local activist groups, to test and produce an evidence-based 'counterplan' to the 'West Tey Garden Community'. For his undergraduate studies, he was awarded the Rotary Prize for humanities by the University of Kent and the RIBA Branch Prize by RIBA Southeast.
Outside of practice, Ben is a member of the RIBA East Sustainability Group, where he acts as a regional climate champion.
