Ms Clare Bayley has written extensively for theatre and radio. Her 2019 play After The Peace imagined the aftermath of a future civil war in the UK and was longlisted for the Bruntwood Prize. Other plays include Blue Sky (Hampstead Theatre, Sherman Theatre Cardiff) and The Container. For radio, The Secret Place, Portobello Beach and five part serial, In The Van. Her translations of forgotten plays by women writers includes Victoria Benedictsson’s The Enchantment (National Theatre, 2007) and George Sand’s Gabriel (Oxford Playhouse, 2022). She is co-author with Fraser Grace of Playwriting: A Writers’ and Artists’ Companion (Bloomsbury). She has run the Oxford Playhouse writers’ development programme, Playhouse Playmakers since 2018. She studied Modern and Medieval Languages (French and Italian) at Sidney Sussex College. She teaches Playwriting and Creative Writing at New York University in London, and mentors students at Central School of Speech and Drama. She is a fellow of the HEA and a Royal Literary Fund Fellow. As a freelance arts journalist and theatre critic, wrote for a number of national publications and is former Theatre Editor of The Independent.
