Dr Dionysios Sourelis is a counselling psychologist (CPsychol, AFBPsS, HCPC registered), existential psychotherapist (UPCA and UKCP registered), clinical supervisor (BPS registered), and higher education tutor based in Piraeus, Greece. He has been running a successful private practice in Piraeus for over a decade where he delivers existential therapy for adults and adolescents on an individual and group basis, as well as he provides existential training and supervision for mental health practitioners. Along with his colleagues he also offers interdisciplinary special education and therapeutic support to neurodivergent children and their families. He has worked as a higher education tutor in public and private academic institutions in Greece (University of the Aegean, University of Ioannina, Aegean College, Metropolitan College), teaching counselling, coaching and psychology modules in various vocational and bachelor programs. Since 2022, he has been teaching master's and doctoral modules related to existential psychotherapy, clinical supervision, neurodiversity and qualitative research as well as supervising dissertation students at the New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling (NSPC), a partner institute of Middlesex University, London. In 2024, he joined the academic team of the MSt in Coaching program at the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) at the University of Cambridge, delivering teaching, research supervision and marking services. Dionysios has participated in many international conferences with presentations concerning existential psychotherapy, existential coaching, and neurodiversity. His teaching style is a blend of strong theoretical foundations and dynamic, experiential learning techniques. He wants to provide students with a solid theoretical background to ground their understanding, while also engage them in interactive discussions and reflective exercises. This approach fosters critical thinking, encourages open-mindedness, and helps students connect theory with real-world applications. His aim is to create an inclusive and stimulating learning environment where students are actively involved in their own learning. He has a keen interest in qualitative methods and particularly in phenomenological research. Dionysios works as a researcher or supervisor on topics and projects related to meaning in life, existential issues in psychotherapy, financial, political and social crisis, therapist burnout and wellbeing, interdisciplinary interventions in autism and ADHD, as well as, diversity, neurodiversity and the workplace.
He holds a bachelor's degree (BSc) in psychology (The Open University, University of Essex), a master's degree (MSc) in forensic psychology and criminology (The Open University) and a professional doctoral degree (DCPsych) in counselling psychology and psychotherapy (Middlesex University, NSPC). Having the mindset of a lifelong learner he has attended several post-graduate vocational training courses in Jungian analysis, cognitive analytic therapy, child psychopathology, child psychology and child psychiatry, higher education teaching, law as social science and music studies among others in various British and Greek institutions.
