Nick is a Consultant Paediatrician, and College Tutor at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is a tutor and facilitator for various stages of the Postgraduate Masters in Medical Education at the Institute of Continuing Education.
Nick is a Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) Theory Examiner, as well as the RCPCH Representative to the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges Foundation Programme Committee.
Prior to becoming a consultant, Nick was the trainee representative to the RCPCH, Examination, Assessment, and START executive committees from 2018 to 2021, and a Contributing Social Media Editor for BMJ Archives of Disease in Childhood. His research into the ways in which Paediatricians interact with Multi-Source Feedback led to a complete renewal of the tool used by all UK Paediatricians in training to obtain colleague feedback.
Nick has a relaxed and interactive teaching style with a core focus on integrating clinical practice with the academic underpinnings of medical education. He uses detailed examples from his own professional experience to help other clinicians build an understanding of education in a way that is relevant to them.
Nick’s research interests are focused on systems of postgraduate medical education and the ways in which we support and encourage professional development both within and outside the workplace. His research activities include:
A study with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health exploring the validity of Multi Source Feedback for formative and summative use with UK Paediatric Trainees.
A practical initiative utilising Balint groups to facilitate meaningful reflective practice and social learning in Paediatric Trainees.
Membership of Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH)
Membership of Paediatric Educators Special Interest Group
