Peter is a Curator of Collections and Interiors within English Heritage's Curatorial department. His work interrogates the diverse and eclectic nature of country house collections and seeks to identify the global narratives imbued in them.
His teaching focuses on art history, curating, and country houses, and he has contributed to undergraduate and postgraduate modules at the University of York and Birkbeck, University of London. He is currently co-supervising a PhD exploring women's art and craft in the English Country House c.1750-1900.
In 2013 he was awarded a PhD from the University of York for his thesis British Graphic Art 1660-1735: An Atlantic Perspective. During his doctoral studies he was based at Tate Britain as part of a major collaborative research project: Court, Country, City: British Art 1660-1735. His work as an art historian is primarily concerned with British art from the 17th-19th century. He has previously held curatorial positions at the National Gallery, the National Trust, and Gainsborough’s House.
