Theo read Natural Sciences and Medicine at Cambridge University and completed his general medical training in Cambridge and London. He trained in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at Cambridge where he was appointed as a Consultant in 2018. He was a Wellcome Research Training Fellow at the Department of Medicine, Cambridge University, where he studied for a PhD in bacterial genomics focussing on vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium in collaboration with the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. He has a research interest on the clinical and public heatlh applications of bacterial genomics in relation to antimicrobial resistant and healthcare-associated infections.
Theo has experience in teaching within the University including undergraduate supervisions, lectures, seminars and small group inter-active sessions. He joined the MSt in Genomics Faculty as a co-lead for the Infection module in 2018
Completed PhD thesis on the use of bacterial genomics to study the hospital and community spread of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (worked within Peacock group, Department of Medicine, and Julian Parkhill’s group, Wellcome Sanger Institute).
Collaborating with other members of the Peacock group in studies that apply the use of whole genome sequencing to inform infection control and public health practice, focusing on Clostridium difficile, extended-spectrum beta-lactamase producing and carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae).
