Dr Jędrzej Niklas is a Senior Teaching Associate in AI Ethics and Society at the University of Cambridge’s Institute of Continuing Education, where he teaches in the areas of AI governance, technology policy, and responsible AI. His teaching is grounded in a decade of interdisciplinary research and policy work examining how data and algorithmic systems shape public institutions, regulatory frameworks, and democratic life.
Jedrzej’s research brings together perspectives from socio-legal studies, critical data studies, and public governance. He has investigated the political and institutional implications of digital technologies across sectors including public administration, environmental management, and civil society. His work explores how AI and data infrastructures reconfigure state authority, the delivery of public services, and the governance of natural resources. He has previously held research positions at the London School of Economics, Cardiff University’s Data Justice Lab, and the Polish Academy of Sciences, where he worked on algorithmic discrimination, digital rights, and the role of civil society in shaping technology governance.
Before joining academia, Jedrzej worked as a legal and policy analyst in non-governmental sector, actively engaging in EU-level debates on GDPR, AI regulation, and digital rights. He continues to be involved in policy engagement and currently advises on grant-making strategies related to data justice and the political dimensions of AI governance.
