I studied Modern History at Balliol College, Oxford and went on to wait tables for a decade while writing novels which were summarily rejected by every agent in London (or so it seemed) until I finally proved myself by self-publishing. That novella, Men, Money & Chocolate, was subsequently picked up by a publisher and translated into 27 languages. Five magical realism novels followed and a fantasy trilogy, The Sisters Grimm which The Guardian called “an intensely poetic narrative of empowerment and self-realisation”. I am currently working on a fantastical historical fiction novel. I’ve taught at ICE for eight years and am currently the Royal Literary Fellow at ARU and, while teaching on the MA in Creative Writing there was shortlisted for “Masters Teacher of the Year, 2022.” While I specialise in speculative fiction, fantasy and magical realism I read happily and widely across most genres.
