After studying medieval art and architecture at the University of East Anglia and the Courtauld Institute of Art, Richard Halsey had a career in historic building conservation, latterly with English Heritage. He was especially concerned with ecclesiastical heritage, being involved with grant schemes for places of worship and cathedrals in England. He also taught on various post-graduate and adult education courses and currently contributes to the Cambridge Master of Studies in Building History programme. He remains involved with the management of places of worship as a Trustee of the Friends of Friendless Churches and chairing two cathedral Fabric Advisory Committees.
