Widely considered one of the most significant and influential short story collections of the 20th century, 'Dubliners' is a rich and intricate tapestry of life and death in Dublin of the early 1900s. Together we shall pinpoint thematic connections and unpick structural and stylistic threads during a weekend both introductory to Joyce the writer and epiphanic for you, the reader.

It is imperative, for ease of reference, that students all work from the same edition of ‘Dubliners’ : namely, the Oxford World’s Classics text, edited by Jeri Johnson (OUP, 2008), which students will be expected to have read in advance of the weekend and to bring with them for the course.
