Dental Education

This new, bespoke programme has been designed for dentists and dental care professionals who wish to develop their educational practice. This includes having a role in supporting learning in dental workplaces (for example as a mentor, clinical or educational supervisor, training programme director) or in academic environments (as a clinical teacher or clinical academic).  

There are three ‘stackable’ courses, each lasting one academic year and purposefully aligned to relevant professional standards for dental educators.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Education is a dental discipline specific course. The emphasis is on your own teaching practice. Those who successfully complete the certificate can apply for the Postgraduate Diploma course

The Postgraduate Diploma in Dental Education includes shared learning with other clinical educators undertaking the sister programme in medical education. This provides rich opportunities for inter-disciplinary learning as you extend your educational practice into areas such as curriculum design, educational leadership and faculty development.

The Master of Studies in Dental Education involves working with peers, faculty and a named project supervisor to develop a small-scale educational research or development project relevant to your educational setting.

The Postgraduate Certificate course launches in 2025 and has a distinct focus on teaching and learning in dental care settings. It has been designed to give you direct experience of a wide range of teaching, learning and assessment methods. There are rich opportunities for feedback, from teaching faculty, from your named tutor and your peers.  
This blended programme combines face-to-face study days in Cambridge, with supported on-line learning (scheduled and self-directed). There are seven scheduled study days, with guided learning activities in-between. 

The Postgraduate Diploma and Master of Studies in Dental Education will be available from 2026 and 2027 respectively.
