ICE Teaching Officer in International Relations (Part-time [0.5FTE], Fixed-term)

Salary: £35,550 – £47,722 pro rata

The University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) delivers high quality and distinctive educational programmes for adult learners, predominantly studying on a part-time basis, for either personal enrichment or professional development. ICE aims to ensure that the expertise and resources of the University of Cambridge are made available to all students, irrespective of their previous educational achievements.

We wish to appoint an Institute Teaching Officer (ITO) in International Relations, offered initially on a 0.5FTE (half-time), two-year fixed term contract basis. The successful candidate will develop, lead and teach part-time programmes at all levels, from open access short courses to award-bearing courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level, supporting and maintaining the University’s international reputation for excellence in teaching. The ITO in International Relations will be responsible for developing the Institute’s courses in the broad field of International Relations, Politics and Public Policy and acting as co-Director of the well-established M.St in International Relations (a FHEQ level 7 qualification). Contribution to teaching within the Institute includes course development and innovation, lecturing, assessment, quality assurance and identifying and fostering new audiences.

The successful candidate will be educated to higher degree level, preferably with a PhD in a relevant field. The candidate will be able to demonstrate experience of developing teaching material for courses, introducing innovative approaches to online and face-to-face teaching and developing and shaping course structure(s). Although not essential, they may have a relevant teaching qualification and/or be a Fellow of the HEA. The candidate will be able to evidence engagement with the latest scholarship in their specialist subject area in order to inform the development of academically rigorous teaching.

The candidate should have a demonstrable ability to take an interdisciplinary approach and to identify collaborative opportunities within and beyond the university where appropriate. Alongside strong interpersonal and communication skills, the candidate will also have an understanding, enthusiasm and flair for engaging academically with a broad spectrum of colleagues and students and a demonstrable commitment to the principles and delivery of continuing education.
