From 1 July 2025, we’ll become the University of Cambridge Professional and Continuing Education.
Our name is changing - but our core values, your learning experience, and our status as an institute of the University of Cambridge remain the same.
Whether you're already studying with us, have studied with us in the past, or are considering your next step, we’re here to guide you through this transition - and invite you to be part of what comes next.
For over 150 years, we’ve been expanding access to high-quality education - originally known as the Local Lectures Syndicate, we have undergone several name changes, most recently becoming the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE). Each chapter has reflected a growing ambition to meet learners where they are, at every stage of life.
Our new name, Professional and Continuing Education, reflects this mission more clearly - as a centre for accessible, world-class learning designed to support both personal and professional growth.
Here’s what to expect from 1 July
If you’re currently studying with us, there’s no disruption to your learning. Teaching and student support services will continue uninterrupted. Your transcripts, certificates or accreditation will reflect our new name - but you can request that your documentation shows the name in use at the time of your enrolment by contacting us here.
For all our learners who have completed an award bearing course with us (undergraduate qualifications, postgraduate certificates and diplomas and part-time Master’s degrees), our rebranding does not affect your status as a University of Cambridge alum. You’ll always be a valued part of our learning community.
Already applied or thinking of applying? Now’s a great time to join us. You’ll be part of the first cohort under our new name - while benefiting from the same expert teaching and flexible courses we’re known for. There’s no change to your application, offer, or eligibility. No further action is needed from you - and your course will be delivered exactly as advertised.
