Next Generation Bursary – Terms and Conditions

The Next Generation Bursary is intended to support recent University of Cambridge graduates and current postdoctoral researchers to undertake further career-relevant learning against the backdrop of a highly challenging economic context. Full information on the bursary and instructions on how to apply can be found on our website.

The bursary will give 100 Cambridge graduates and postdoctoral researchers a subsidy worth up to £2,100 to part-fund eligible postgraduate courses at the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE).

The bursary applies to eligible part-time postgraduate courses provided by the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education commencing in Michaelmas Term (October) of the 2021-22 academic year.

A complete list of eligible courses and associated costs can be seen below. The bursary is open to anyone who falls into one of the following three categories:

  1. A University of Cambridge graduate who graduated in 2020  (anyone who has completed a course whereby they were a member of a College eg BA, MPhil, MSt, MRes, full-time Adv Dip etc.);

  2. A University of Cambridge graduate who will graduate by 1 July 2021  (anyone who has completed a course whereby they were a member of a College eg BA, MPhil, MSt, MRes, full-time Adv Dip etc.);

  3. A University of Cambridge postdoctoral researcher who is currently employed by the University.

Other requirements for bursary eligibility (for all categories 1 - 3) are as follows:

  • Students must be aged 18 or over by 1 September 2021. Proof of age may be required.

  • Bursaries will be awarded on a first-come, first-served based (based on time and date of application) to those who meet the bursary criteria and who provide the required proof of eligibility.

  • Course applications must be completed in full to be considered for the bursary scheme. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

  • An applicant’s bursary will not be confirmed until written proof of their eligibility has been received and they have been offered a place on the relevant course. Bursaries will be allocated to eligible applicants once their eligibility has been confirmed, they have accepted their place on the relevant course and payment is confirmed, hence early applications are encouraged.

  • The University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) reserves the right to decline a candidate if they do not meet the entry requirements set out for their chosen course.

  • Individuals who are found to have falsely claimed eligibility for the Next Generation Bursary will have the bursary revoked and will be required to pay the full outstanding balance before attending the course. Anyone deciding not to proceed with the course in the event that they have the bursary revoked will not be entitled to a refund and will forfeit all of the monies paid to date.

  • Individuals who cancel will have the bursary revoked and our standard refund policy will apply.

  • Only one bursary can be used for each course booking. In the event that an applicant qualifies for more than one bursary, they should decide which course application they wish to apply their bursary to.

  • Bursaries are non-transferable and should only be used by the person for whom they are intended.

  • Individuals can only be awarded the Next Generation Bursary once.

  • Bursaries cannot be used in conjunction with any other course discounts or promotional offers.

  • A bursary reduction is only applied to the element of the course fee that an applicant pays themselves. For example, it would not apply to the part of the fee covered by external funding such as from Health Education England (HEE) or fee being paid by the applicant's employer.

  • Individuals cannot be awarded a bursary along with a Cambridge Alumni (CAMCard) concession or University of Cambridge staff concession, and you can only receive one bursary at a time.

  • The bursary is not applicable to individual course modules.

  • A valid ICE course gift voucher can be used in conjunction with a bursary.

  • Places on courses are subject to availability.

  • ICE reserves the right not to deliver any course if it does not recruit to viable student numbers. Applicants will be refunded any fees due at this point.

  • ICE reserves the right to withdraw this bursary at any time.

  • ICE plan to deliver our postgraduate qualifications in-person in the academic year 2021-22. Please note that this will be reviewed in line with the latest public health guidance available at the time. If required, to ensure the health and safety of students, we may look to utilise alternative teaching formats and will contact students if we expect changes to the course delivery.

  • The deadline for applications for this bursary is 31 May 2021.
