Whether you’re taking your first steps in higher education, looking to boost your career, fill a gap in your knowledge or simply learn about a topic that fascinates you- our Undergraduate courses are now open. At the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education, we offer a plethora of Undergraduate Certificates and Diplomas in a wide variety of subject areas.
Part-time Undergraduate qualifications are an affordable and popular option for people who cannot commit to a full-time three-year bachelor’s degree. They offer a flexible way of learning which fits around your work and home commitments, allowing you to find the time to do something for yourself. You can choose to either focus on one subject or learn multiple subjects by stacking your qualifications.
There are courses in the areas of Creative Writing and English Literature, Arts and Sciences and Professional Studies. So, whether you are looking to improve your knowledge on genetics, launch a career in coaching or learn how to write a non-fiction book, we have a programme which could be of interest to you.
In the new year, we will be launching three new Undergraduate Certificate courses:
The difference between a certificate and a diploma for undergraduates relates to the level of learning involved. A certificate is taught at a level equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree, whist a diploma is taught at the level of second year undergraduate study. Most of our students start with a certificate before undertaking a diploma course, where more depth of knowledge in their subject can be built. The undergraduate advanced diploma course at ICE is very much like a final university year, with research submitted for evaluation.
Learners who have previously studied on our Undergraduate courses share their positivity towards their programmes:
Catherine Sprague was a student in the 2022 cohort of the Undergraduate Diploma in Archaeology: Death and the Ancient World. She says: “I am deeply appreciative that this entire process is truly tailored for working adults - when one is very young and able to be present in classes, the socializing aspects hold a lot of value. For an adult with a full-time job and/or family, the emphasis needs to be more on the material. My studies at ICE have helped me achieve a greater sense of academic belonging (regardless of age) and opened the door to a lifelong dream of studying with the University of Cambridge.”
Judith Seery studied for the Undergraduate Certificate in Cognitive Psychology as part of the 2022 cohort. She shares that she left school at 15 with little insight into further education. Later, having raised two sons who went to university, she felt inspired to go herself. She says: “As I was approaching my sixtieth, I decided that further education would be my birthday present to myself. Attending Cambridge University as an ICE student has been one of the best experiences of my life and has given me so much. It has been a privilege to attend, meet people from all over the world and be taught by fantastic lecturers.”
Our courses at ICE are for everyone, no matter what place you are in your life, regardless of how much time you have.
