A parasitologist specialising in malaria, Dr. Nacer's research has focused on deciphering host-parasite interactions to find tools to combat a disease that still causes over half a million deaths every year. Dr Nacer has worked on both the mosquito vector and mammalian host to better understand parasite growth and virulence. Dr Nacer completed postdoctoral training at Department of Medical Parasitology at the New York University School of Medicine before joining the Biology of Host-parasite Interactions Unit at the Pasteur Institute in Paris. Dr Nacer then joined, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency as a Scientist to determine the potential for malaria parasites to evolve vaccine resistance mechanisms. This research led Dr Nacer to establish a new research programme evaluating models for infectious diseases and vaccinology as Senior Scientist.
Dr Nacer enjoys helping others to develop and took up an appointment as Deputy Unit Lead at the University of Buckingham Medical School. In this role Dr Nacer delivered teaching on public health, epidemiology, and health psychology for the undergraduate medical degree. Dr Nacer designed an elective course on MedTech and Healthcare Innovation, and supervised a doctoral candidate to completion.
