Teaching Associate in International Development & Global Health (Part Time, Fixed Term)

The University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) is seeking to appoint a Teaching Associate in the field of International Development and Global Health to support ICE’s development of a portfolio of new short courses and award bearing programmes. The primary task will be to lead the development of a new part-time Masters in International Development and Global Health.

The position is part-time (50% FTE) for a fixed term of 24-months in the first instance.

The Teaching Associate will work alongside Dr Alexandra Winkels, ICE’s Academic Director for International Development and Global Change.

Candidates should have earned postgraduate qualifications, and ideally a PhD, in a relevant field including international development, global health, public health, medical sociology, population geography, humanitarian assistance, health administration and other related areas.

Candidates with experience of curriculum development and teaching within established university settings are encouraged to apply. A recognised qualification in university-level teaching would be advantageous; however, the successful candidate would be eligible to apply to study for the University’s Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a clear commitment to seeking to work with adult students learning on a part-time basis wishing to develop their expertise in international development and global health and engagement and potentially explore career paths in the field. The Teaching Associate will take an evidence-based and innovative approach to curriculum development and pedagogy / andragogy. Moreover, they will wish to develop their career in a multidisciplinary centre of excellence focused on delivering excellent continuing education courses of study, within a world-leading university context.

Through collaborative partnerships across the Collegiate University the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) develops and delivers high-quality, differentiated, academic courses for professional development and personal enrichment to a diverse range of adult learners. ICE is based in the magnificent setting of Madingley Hall, four miles outside Cambridge and set in grounds designed by Capability Brown. Our staff of c. 150 consists of academics, administrators and the Hall team. ICE's teaching is further supported by c. 300 part-time tutors and examiners.

We currently offer c. 600 courses a year which include day schools, residential weekend courses, fully online courses, intensive summer programmes for international students, bespoke courses, award-bearing sub-degree courses and part-time Master's degree courses. At present there are approximately 4,300 student enrolments each academic year.
