Institute of Continuing Education (ICE)

Feeling stuck in your career? You can get advice on your next move from a top employment coach. Career expert Dr Sonia Rignall will offer free, personal career advice at the Institute of Continuing Education’s Open Day on Saturday 1 April, Madingley Hall.

This unique, one-off session has been specially designed to help professionals who want to supercharge their progression at work and manage their own career opportunities.

“This really is a unique opportunity that could change your life,” says Director of Programmes Emma Jennings. “So many people feel frustrated that they are stuck in their career, or ready for a change. This gives those people access to the very best careers advice working with the University – and it’s open to everyone.”

The session, titled Active Career Management, is part of a full day of activities at Madingley Hall on Saturday 1 April 2017.

“Many people are at a crossroads in their career,” says organisational consultant Dr Sonia Rignall, who is leading the session. “What appealed to us at 18 doesn’t have that same appeal now. It’s not that we’re less ambitious, it’s that our lives are different.

“Most people discuss their career with the boss, but this session gives you opportunity and time to think about your own life situation and motivations, away from your organisation, and completely focus on exactly what you want. Careers are very personal and subjective, there’s no standard option. We’ll give you practical tools to use on an ongoing basis to help you get to where you want to be.”

More highlights of the day include other life coaching sessions, tips on how to prepare for study and tasters of some of ICE’s huge range of courses in subjects such as sociology, international development, history, genomics and psychology.

“The whole day is an opportunity to look at where you want to be and get practical advice and help to fulfil your ambitions,” adds Emma.
