James Petre obtained his B.A. and M.A. in History and his Ph,D. in Archaeology. His area of interest lies primarily in the medieval period. Very recently - in 2012, his Ph.D. was developed into a book (Crusader Castles of Cyprus) published by the Cyprus government. Simultaneously he had another book published (The Castles of Bedfordshire) which underpins one of the courses which he teaches. He has taught various audiences; his style is to provoke review over received opinion and investigate matters hitherto overlooked. He also continues his own new studies and is currently a post-graduate student of the University of the Highlands and Islands.
