Dr Sarah Pearson is Teaching Associate in History of Art at the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education (ICE). She is an art and architectural historian with specialist interests in European Renaissance and the use of architecture to promote specific ideological or sociological principles.
Sarah’s PhD is from the University of Reading and the subject of her doctoral thesis is the architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini on whom she has published articles and contributed to the book, Reconstructing Francesco di Giorgio Architect (Peter Lang, 2011).
Sarah has been lecturing at universities and adult education institutions on a variety of art and architectural subjects since 2001. She retains active research interests in Italian art and architecture with particular reference to the rise of Fascism and its expression through Italian design.
I am in the process of preparing articles from my PhD thesis on the subject of the convent of Santa Chiara in Urbino and the architecture of Francesco di Giorgio Martini. I have ongoing research interests in this field, in particular the architecture of purpose built cinquecento convents. I aim to visit Italy at least once a year to further my research on this and other areas of interest, in particular the architecture of Andrea Palladio and the architecture of the Fascist era in Italy. This year I spent some time visiting all of the extant Palladian villas in Italy to gain a better understanding of the varying geography and territory in which they were constructed
I am also actively engaged in research of the Riddlesworth estate in Norfolk, its history and impact on the development of the surrounding villages. This research is being undertaken with the intention of producing a book on the development and ultimate decline of a Norfolk estate
