Mozart is quite arguably the greatest opera composer of his time. We will explore aspects of his work, including how he related to eighteenth-century operatic conventions – exploiting them, playing with them, even contravening them (generally with a specific dramaturgical effect). We will focus particularly on his Don Giovanni, a masterpiece that raises some important questions.
