Focusing on targeted case studies including Abbot Suger of Saint-Denis and Saint Stephen’s Chapel in Westminster, this seminar will explore the different ways in which medieval art has been collected and interpreted from the twelfth to nineteenth centuries, contrasting medieval and modern perspectives on its meaning, presentation and artistic value.
