How does a dramatic text make the journey from off the page and onto the stage? Looking at specific classical texts, like Sophocles’ Antigone, Shakespeare’s As You Like It and Chekhov’s Three Sisters, we will explore how directors and actors work with plays and prepare a script for performance. This will be a practical course and run like a studio class in which we will interrogate texts, hunting out the clues the playwright gives us, rehearsing approaches and mounting performances of short scenes in the final session(s). This is a 10 session course and must be taken with W110Pm02 in week 1.
