Institute of Continuing Education (ICE)

This course will introduce you to the fundamental ethical principles that govern the processing of large amounts of data (Big Data) and the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI). We will explore the essence of Big Data and AI, as well as the associated benefits and risks in socially significant domains. We will then discuss the role of ethics in addressing and balancing the prospects of harm with those of benefits. We will consider the meaning of key ethics principles such as privacy, human autonomy, non-maleficence, beneficence, justice and fairness, and their practical application to data and AI. This is a 10-session course and must be taken with W210Pm51 in Week 2.
