We explore medical ideas and the practice of medicine alongside scientific theories of life, physiology, and disease. Starting with the pre-Classical world, Ancient Greece, the Arabic and Western Middle Ages, we move to the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, ending with a very brief look at the beginnings of modern medical thinking in the 19th century. This nontechnical treatment of medicine requires no scientific or medical background. Evaluation is not available for this course.
