Alert:

This course has been cancelled. Please register your interest by using the ‘Ask a Question’ function and we will notify you when this course, or a similar course, is next run.

Join us to work on some of our favourite mathematical problems, see how considering one question can prompt further enquiry, and discover that everyone can enjoy thinking mathematically.

Come prepared to explore, discuss, conjecture, reason and generalise. The day(s) will offer plenty of opportunities to be playful with mathematics, to compare strategies, to make unexpected connections, and to become excited by discoveries.

This course is offered in conjunction with Mathematics is not a spectator sport ! (part 2) which takes place on on Sunday 10 December 2017.

Each of these discrete days will offer different starting points and mathematical content, with a chance to experience a variety of mathematical journeys. Participants are encouraged to attend both events, but each day will be self-contained in order to accommodate those who can only attend one of the dates.

The course(s) will be accessible to anyone who is confident with GCSE / O Level mathematics. Most of the time will be spent working in small groups and then sharing ideas with others.

If you are unable to join us for either of these days, you might be interested in: Maths for parents. A series of workshops for parents who would like to know more about enjoying mathematics with their children (8 - 13 yrs).

This course takes place at Madingley Hall, home to the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education.Day schools run from 10.00am to 4.45pm and include four teaching sessions of 75 minutes each. The course fee includes tea, coffee and a buffet lunch.

About Madingley Hall

Madingley Hall itself is an impressive manor house dating back to the mid-16th century. The decoration of the Saloon and the formal Stair Hall was carried out 200 years later, and the whole fabric was renovated with great care around 1900. About four miles from the centre of Cambridge, the Hall stands in several acres of beautifully-maintained gardens and overlooks a landscape which has changed relatively little since it was laid out by Capability Brown. It is just four miles from the centre of Cambridge, and only 60 minutes from London, with excellent links to London airports.

Directions to Madingley Hall

Unless otherwise stated, teaching and assessment for ICE courses are in English. Students whose first language is not English should refer to the Competence in the English Language Policy for further guidance.
